We spend our days working with companies and entrepreneurs, and it has been dark for a while now.
People are being laid off, costs are being cut,
investments are being postponed, dreams and life’s work are going under.
We also follow a large number of data feeds, and it
has been just as dark there for a while. Macro risks, unemployment, interest rate rises
and inflation, all the figures pointed downwards.
Then, suddenly, one figure pointing in the right
direction. The long-term interest rate is now higher than the short-term one. So what does
this mean? It means that an investor wants more in return for locking in
their money, which is the normal state of affairs. However, in recent years we have mostly seen the
opposite, i.e. investors believed there would be no
better investment opportunities in the near future, so they were often
willing to pay to have their money locked in for a longer time.
But now, for the first time in a long while, we are
back at what should be a normal situation.
